Whilst staying at the Dona Filipa you will play most of your golf on the San Lorenzo course. However, you may want to play at the sister Le Meridien course at Penina which can be pre-paid and pre-booked or you may want to play on the excellent Vale do Lobo or Quinta do Lago courses or the even more impressive Jack Nickaus design at Monte Rei. For many years ranked in Europe's top 5 mainland courses, this panoramic course on the Quinta do Lago estate continues to excel in terms of condition and scenery. Designed on the Ria Formosa estuary San Lorenzo offers a mix of holes through avenues of pine trees and then from holes 6 to 9 and then from 16 -18 some magnificent holes beside the estuary with water looming for anything but the perfect shot. Holes 7 and 8 are the most spectacular with the best views of the sea. But the 17th and 18th are two of Europe's most memorable finishing holes. The course is quite hilly, has many elevated tee positions, but is always very easy to walk rather than hire a buggy.
Pinheiros Altos is a fine 27 hole golf course with the old 18, originally opening in 1995. The first nine holes thread their way over sand ridges, covered by big pine trees, where accuracy is important, whilst the back nine are designed on much flatter land with several prominent lakes to contend with. The newest nine holes opened in 2006 and is maturing into a fine test of golf on more open land with less natural hazards.
